The well-known theatre Wilma in Philadelphia, run by Blanka and Jiří Žižka organized on January 12th a successful rehearsed reading of Havel’s play Leaving [Odcházení]. The translator Paul Wilson “Americanized” for the reading his English version that run to critical acclaim at the Orange Tree Theatre in London in repertory during the whole of Autumn 2008. The main attraction of the reading was brilliant acting by F. Murray Abraham – famous for his performance of Salieri in Miloš Forman’s film Amadeus – in the role of the Chancellor Rieger. Despite his many commitments, the actor is currently considering a possibility of taking the role in the eventual full-scale American premiere production of the play.
