Three renowned theatre practitioners – directors Hana Burešová, Ivo Krobot and Martin Porubjak – will present rehearsed readings of three entries of the Alfréd Radok Playwriting Awards 2010, the competition organized jointly by the Foundation Fund of the Alfréd Radok Awards and the Aura-Pont agency.
The event aims at supporting Czech and Slovak playwrights and their new work. Besides the students of the main drama schools, JAMU in Brno and VŠMU in Bratislava, major Czech actors such as Daniela Kolářová, Arnošt Goldflam, Pavel Batěk and Jiří Lábus will be among those appearing on stage.
The first Czech and Slovak Playwrights Night will include following events:
Hana Burešová prepares a rehearsed reading of Tomáš Vůjtek’s play WITH HOPE AND WITHOUT IT [S NADĚJÍ, I BEZ NÍ]. The most successful play in the Alfréd Radok Playwriting Competition 2010 takes its inspiration from the memoirs by Josefa Slánská, the widow of the prominent Communist Party official Rudolf Slánský sentenced in a show trial and executed in early 1950s for high treason. This suggestive image from modern Czech history will be performed by well known actors, Daniela Kolářová, Pavel Batěk a Jiří Lábus.
Ivo Krobot will present students and fresh graduates from JAMU in the rehearsed reading of TERMITARY [TERMITIŠTĚ] by Eva Prchalová. The play is about six young voluntary workers who set out for an unnamed African country to provide humanitarian help.
Martin Porubjak and the students from VŠMU in Bratislava will present excerpts from a remarkable tri-lingual play by Jozef Timčák. IRISH COFFEE deals with the economical migrants from Central Europe working in fast-food business in Ireland.
And just before midnight, there will be a world premiere: Arnošt Goldflam will read his new melancholy comedy BLBÁ VERUNA [SILLY VERUNA] in his idiosyncratic delivery.
Start at 19.30, expected to end around midnight. The theatre café NONA on the third floor of the New Stage building stays open late into the night… more information and the press release are here.
