The Miracle in New York

A rehearsed reading of the 2007 Alfréd Radok Award winning play The Miracle at the Black House launched this year's Contemporary Czech Drama Season in New York on June 2nd. This, already the seventh, instalment of the "Czech Plays in Translation" programme, was organized by the Czech Centre in New York together with the city's Immigrants Theatre Project led by the Artistic Director Marcy Arlin. The successful reading at the Bohemian National Hall on the East Side (still under reconstruction) was followed by a long and substantial discussion with the author. Milan Uhde was very pleased both with the presentation of his play (translated by David Short and directed by Gwyn MacDonald) and with the involvement of the audience recruited mainly from the Czech expats.
