Whilst in secondary school he founded the theatre group based on practical jokes Universal Artistic Association. He studied at the Natural Sciences Faculty of the Charles University in Prague (for political reasons he was not allowed to study in any other řeld). In 1989 he took the opportunity of an invitation to Antwerp to emigrate to France. He wrote here the first version of his play The Innocent are Innocent. Spurred on by the Czech emigré Pavel Tigrid, he completed the play, which won the first ever Alfréd Radok Award in 1992. He now devotes himself to prose, and describes himself as a left-wing author.
