Leaving in Moscow

Taganka’s artistic director Yuri Lyubimov personally greeted his Czech colleague before the performance started on the stage of “his” theatre. But the reaction of the audience following the script through simultaneous interpreting in their earphones seemed lukewarm at the best, especially at the beginning.

“The audience followed the play carefully and reacted to some comic scenes but was probably surprised by the ending of the first half. I expected more applause before the interval. But the deciding factor is the reaction at the end of the play,” Milan Uhde, another Czech playwright and former politician who went to see the show, said. The resounding applause after the final self-ironic lines about truth and love prevailing over lie and hatred confirmed this.
