Ladislav Smoljak’s death – he went straight to the “Czech Heaven”

The director, script writer and actor Ladislav Smoljak died on Sunday, June 6, aged 78. The co-founder of the Jára Cimrman Theatre passed away at 3 a.m. at the Kladno Hospital following a prolonged illness. Smoljak was lately suffering from breathing problems but despite severe pain he continued to perform at the theatre, his close associate and colleague Zdeněk Svěrák  said. The audience last saw Smoljak performing onstage at the end of May.

The general public will pay their last respects to the director, script writer and actor Ladislav Smoljak on Friday, June 11, at Žižkov Theatre in Prague.
