The instrumental piece Orlík from the CD
Echoes from the Stone released last year by the Czech Clarinet Quartet (CCQ) with the label Black Point Music (
www.blackpointmusic.cz/shop ) was among finalists in the
International Songwriting Competition organized in Nashville. Its journey was triumphant: first, Orlík was selected by a jury including panel members such as
Tom Waits and
Pat Metheny from almost
15 000 compositions and songs from
80 countries for the semi finals of 1000 songs. At the beginning of February the sensation came: the Czech piece is in the finals among the 12 best contributions of the "Instrumental" category. Today's news says Orlík performed by the CCQ won the competition and the Czech Clarinet Quartet will be getting - enormous prestige notwithstanding - a cash award of $ 1,000 and $ 3,000 in donations from the sponsors. More information on the winning entries in all the categories can be found on www.songwritingcompetition.com/winners.htm.
