On 25 April 2009, a German language premiere in Joachim Bruss’ translation at the City Theatre in Aachen, will start this year’s series of national productions of Václav Havel’s play.
A Bulgarian version, translated by Martin Mladenov, is scheduled to open in May a the Sava Ognyanov Theatre in Ruse on the river Danube.
The play will also open in Croatia in the Komedija Theatre in Zagreb, probably in June 2009, in Dagmar Ruljančić’s translation and directed by Nina Kleflin.
Tel Aviv National Habimah Theatre applied for a contract for producing Leaving in Israel during the next theatre season 2009/2010. Ruth Bondy, the renowned translator, is translating the text into Hebrew.
Another contract under discussion is that for a Turkish premiere at the City Theatre in Istanbul, scheduled for September. The rights for the whole area of Scandinavia have been already bought by the Danish-based agency Nordiska Strakosh Vorlaget. First production in Scandinavia should open on 4 February 2010 at the City Theatre in the Danish town of Odense.
Leaving has already been translated into fourteen languages, three more translations are currently underway.
