Arnošt Goldflam is the most performed playwright in the Czech Republic

Arnošt Goldflam’s plays and dramatizations have been running in repertory in several theatres and amateur companies. The latest premiere was Agatomania [Agatománie] in Uherské Hradiště on 5 September 2009. This summer, Studio DVA TC staged a successful production of his play Ladies’ Dressing Room [Dámská šatna], a dramatization of Golden Eels [Zlatí úhoři] by Ota Pavel opened in October 2008 at the City Theatres of Prague,  Řeznická Theatre is still showing his Director’s Box [Ředitelská lóže] and his very successful latest play Women and Dolls [Ženy a panenky].

The last mentioned play is definitely very popular with Czech theatres: it was produced in Hradec KrálovéMD Olomouc (opening on January 15, 2010). and a production is also planned at the City theatre

The other projects lined up for Arnošt Goldflam on top of the premiere in Olomouc include: a production of the series of one act plays In Hitler’s Family Kitchen [U Hitlerů v kuchyni] at Dlouhá Theatre (opens on December 4, 2009). This text also enjoys a considerable success – there was an imaginative staged reading at the Kolowrat Theatre, the play was premiered in Brno at HaDivadlo on November 10, 2008 and in Olomouc at MD Olomouc (premiere Nobember 19, 2008).

A premiere of One Day [Jeden den] is opening on Sunday November 15, 2009, at Eliade Library at the Na Zábradlí Theatre. Brno’s Goose on the String Theatre prepares a premiere of a new play with the working title The World as we knew it. At the Polárka Theatre, also in Brno, a dramatization of his book Standa and the House of Horrors [Standa a dům hrůzy] (scheduled for opening on 8 May 2010). That’s without mentioning countless productions by amateur companies (for instance, Ladies’ Dressing Room at the Exil Theatre, An Old Hag is Dancing [Stará bába tančí] at the Slon v Porcelánu Theatre) and texts broadcast by radio (such as the fairy tale Of the Boy who didn’t know how to be naughty [O klukovi, který neuměl zlobit]. Also in the pipeline is the premiere of an opera based on Karel Poláček’s “children” novel – There were five of us, I dreamt [Bylo nás pět, zdálo se mi] with the music by Z. Matějů.

And A. Goldflam continues to direct, of course: his next production is that of T. Bernhard’s series of one-act plays,  A German Lunch (Czech premiere, 23 October 2009, ND Brno).
